New Additions to the Classroom

One of the rules for our biome project was not to include any living things that could escape.  Well, apparently worms can escape.  And, when they dry up and die ants find them.  We had several piles of ants, concentrated (vocabulary!) on a few worms in the back of our room.  I managed to get most into the trash can and then hosed down the rest.  My custodian is going to love me!

But wait, there's one more new addition and this one isn't so bad, a caterpillar on our sunflower.  And today it was in a cocoon!  The student took it home so she'll have to keep us updated on its progress.

Biome Project

The students had an assignment over the holiday weekend to create a biome in a plastic clamshell.  We've been studying biomes for two weeks.  Here's what we did.

First:  We textmapped the entire lesson, highlighting titles and headings.

Then:  We studied the section under each heading, highlighting details and taking notes in our notebooks.

Finally:  We made a four door foldable reviewing biome, climate, living, and nonliving things.  We included simple directions for the clamshell biome inside the doors of the foldable.  The students took these home to help them with their project so I don't have a picture, but they looked great!

Here are the biomes that came in on Tuesday.  They look fantastic!!

Good job everybody!!

Welcome!

Welcome to my students and their families!  This blog is a place to keep you updated on what's happening in our classroom.  It will not be used for any personal information or photos of the students.  I'm very new at this so the blog looks pretty bare right now.  But, as I learn how to do new things I will add to it.  I hope you find it useful and visit often (and I hope I remember to post all the cool stuff that the kids do in class).

Thanks!
Mrs. Roberts
